    Landers P. “Lanny” Bonenberger is senior partner at McDermott & Bonenberger, having joined the firm in 1972 and is a life-long resident of Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia.

    Lanny attended Wheeling Central Catholic High School, graduating in 1960. He also attended the University of Notre Dame where he became a “Double Domer” receiving his A.B. degree in 1964 and his J.D. in 1968. While in law school, he was associate director of the Moot Court Honor Society.

    Lanny is married to the former Barbara Spang and they have one daughter, Hilary, who is also a Notre Dame graduate and a practicing attorney in Pittsburgh.

    Lanny is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a national professional association of select attorneys recognized as skilled in litigation and whose membership is limited to those considered the best in their states. Additionally, Lanny has recently been recognized as a "SUPER LAWYER." He has been appointed to serve on the Alternatives For Dispute Resolution Committee of the College through October, 2007. He is a member of the West Virginia Bar Association and the National Bar Association, past president of the Ohio County Bar Association and a past member of the Board of Governors of the West Virginia Defense Trial Counsel. Lanny is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating. Martindale-Hubbell is the premier guide to professional achievement in the nation.

    Lanny has served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Ohio County and has served as solicitor for the Ohio County Commission since 1978 in which role he represents the Sheriff and Assessor of Ohio County and also counsels the Ohio County Development Authority.

    Lanny is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in West Virginia and, as well, the United States Supreme Court.

    Lanny has conducted hundreds of trials, both criminal and civil, and continues to maintain an active trial practice with an emphasis on medical malpractice, mass tort and complex litigation. He has been involved in many of the most recognized litigation of recent years, including tobacco (representing Philip Morris), phen-fen, silica and other toxic tort litigation. He is a seasoned mediator with a state-wide and regional practice as well as serving in locales as far away as Canada. He is also a guest columnist for the Wheeling News-Register, authoring quarterly commentaries.
